چکیده

Chirped quasi-phase-matched optical parametric amplifiers (chirped QPM OPAs) are investigated experimentally. The measured collinear gain is constant over a broad bandwidth, which makes these devices attractive candidates for use in femtosecond amplifier systems. The experiment also shows that chirped QPM OPAs support noncollinear gain-guided modes. These modes can dominate the desired collinear gain and generate intense parametric fluorescence. Design guidelines to mitigate these parasitic processes are discussed. © 2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 140.4480, 190.4970, 190.4410, 190.7110, 320.1590, 320.5540.

Noncollinear parametric fluorescence by chirped quasi-phase matching for monocycle temporal entanglement.

Quantum entanglement of two photons created by spontaneous parametric downconversion (SPDC) can be used to probe quantum optical phenomena during a single cycle of light. Harris [Opt. Express 98, 063602 (2007)] suggested using ultrabroad parametric fluorescenc generated from a quasi-phase-matched (QPM) device whose poling period is chirped. In the Harris's original proposal, it is assumed that ...

Bandwidth enhancement for parametric amplifiers operated in chirped multi-beam mode

In this paper we discuss the bandwidth enhancement that can be achieved in multi-Joule optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) systems exploiting the tunability of parametric amplification. In particular, we consider a pair of single pass amplifiers based on potassium dideuterium phosphate (DKDP), pumped by the second harmonic of Nd:glass and tuned to amplify adjacent regions of ...

E. Wolf, Progress in Optics 44 C 2004 All Rights Reserved X Multistep Parametric Processes in Nonlinear Optics

We present a comprehensive overview of different types of parametric interactions in nonlinear optics which are associated with simultaneous phase-matching of several optical processes in quadratic nonlinear media, the so-called multistep parametric interactions. We discuss a number of possibilities of double and multiple phase-matching in engineered structures with the sign-varying second-orde...

Engineering of multicolor spatial solitons with chirped-period quasi-phase-matching gratings in optical parametric amplification.

We demonstrate the excitation of solitons in a parametric amplifier with enhanced signal content through the use of a chirped-period quasi-phase-matching grating. This technique affords a low soliton threshold at the input end of a parametric amplifier, and the subsequent transformation to a desired soliton that exists at nonzero wave-vector mismatch through the use of a linearly chirped quasi-...

Phase-matching for Nonlinear Optical Parametric Processes with Multistep Cascading

We present a brief overview of different methods for simultaneous phase-matching of several parametric optical processes (the so-called multistep cascading) in engineered structures with the modulated second-order nonlinear susceptibility. In particular, we discuss the possibility of double phase-matching in both uniform and non-uniform quasi-phase-matched (QPM) periodic optical superlattices a...
